Dear Reader Letter – May 2015

girls only dinner_565

Dear Reader,

Hooray! SINFUL, my newest Bitter Creek novel, the first in my King’s Brats series, is #15 on the New York Times and #12 on the Publisher’s Weekly bestseller lists. Thank you so much for your support!

To celebrate, I took a short break from writing while my daughter visited and hosted a “Girls Only!” dinner party with great conversation about travel to Mars, tennis, and romance, of course! (see photo above.)

I’ve finished SHAMELESS, the second book in my King’s Brats series, which will be in stores December 28, 2015 and available for pre-order now. I’m working on the next book in the series, SURRENDER. Having a great time writing in a lot of twists and turns that the characters throw at me.

Dear Reader Letter – April 2015

Texas Wildflowers

Dear Reader,

I just returned from a research trip to Fredericksburg, Texas, for the “King’s Brats” series and took this photo of the beautiful roadside bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush. I returned home just in time for today’s release of SINFUL, the first book in the series.

My newest Bitter Creek novel begins the modern-day saga of “King’s Brats,” four women in Jackson, Wyoming, who’ve waged a lifelong battle with their closest ranch neighbors, “those awful Flynn boys.” But there’s a fine line between love and hate.

Dear Reader – March 2015

Dear Reader,

Now that spring has officially arrived, even though there still may be snow on your back porch, who isn’t ready to pick some daffodils? This is how Cowboy Cooper, my daughter’s Schnauzer, welcomed spring. You can see he’s really happy to shed his winter coat!

Dear Reader – February 2015

Dear Reader,

Happy Valentine’s Day! I just finished packing up a box of Valentine goodies to ship to my daughter, son-in-law, and grandkids—more paper hearts and flowers than candy ones. I’m enough of a romantic to have been married on Valentine’s Day (a very long time ago as you can see from the photo below!)

Dear Reader – December 2014

Dear Reader,

Happy holidays! This year I decided to have three dinner parties instead of a single come-and-go party. It’s been great fun decorating my table for each party and then figuring out what meal (lamb shanks, Boston butt pork shoulder, and orange chicken) to serve my guests. Hope your Christmas is also full of joyful time spent with friends and family!

Dear Reader – November 2014

ThanksgivingTableSet_blog_567

Dear Reader,

Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays, since it’s a time for families to come together. As my five sisters and (only one) brother grew up and had kids, and our kids had kids, Thanksgiving dinners often involved as many as fifty people, two turkeys and a ham. Everyone brought their favorite dish, and there were rarely any leftovers. Nowadays, I love setting a Thanksgiving table and inviting friends to dinner in advance of the family holiday. I hope you and yours have a loving Thanksgiving celebration with family this year.

Debbie Macomber & Joan

Debbie Macomber & Joan

Dear Reader,

Fall is in the air!  As my favorite football team, the Denver Broncos, rev up the season, I had the great pleasure of watching them take on the Seahawks with my friend, Debbie Macomber, in her skybox at Seattle’s Century Link Field.

Rocky Mountain Honor Flight of WWII veterans at Marine Memorial

Dear Reader,

School is back in session, so for many of you, life can return to “normal.” I recently had the joy of being a guardian for a Rocky Mountain Honor Flight of WWII veterans – ages 85-98 – visiting numerous war memorials in Washington, D.C. and had the pleasure of sharing the stories of their service in WWII.

Dear Reader,

joanandloganatbroncos2014Having just put my grandson on a plane back to Florida, I’m thinking how lucky I am to live in a place with such great opportunities for adventure. We had a blast! From the challenging white water of the Cache la Poudre River to the wave pool at Water World, Denver Broncos football, bowling, games, movies, and an American Idol Concert, it was a crazy, hectic, amazing week.

I’ve been traveling a lot this summer, so the release of UNFORGETTABLE has been delayed, but it will be available soon. I’ll be sure to let you know when it’s (finally!) on-line.

Dear Reader – July 2014

Dear Reader,

HedwigAngryInch_292Summer is heating up for me in more ways than just high temperatures. Yes, it’s hot here in Colorado but I’ve been especially busy with conference speaking, writing and travel with more to come. Sometimes feel more like a circus juggler than author!

Just arrived back from New York where I spoke at Craftfest, a part of Thrillerfest conference, on How to Write the Unputdownable Novel. My son flew in from Seattle to attend the conference and turned out to be a huge help to me during my own workshop. More people attended than I’d anticipated and I ran out of handouts. Blake managed to photocopy enough so everyone left with a copy–along with one of my books. I talked about “hooking” the reader at the beginning and the end of each chapter. It’s what I try to do with every book.
